Mumbai, June 22, 2017 (Online News India): The Ladies’ Wing of IMC Chamber of Commerce & Industry in commemoration of its Golden Jubilee hosted its AGM and a ceremony for the presentation of its prestigious “Woman of the Year Award”. This coveted award is conferred on an achiever for her inspirational work and significant contribution towards the society.

The award for 2017 was presented to Padma Shree, Sakshi Malik – Indian Wrestler and Bronze Medal Winner at Summer Olympics 2016. The chambers also conferred a ‘Rise to Your Potential” award in special recognition, to Shalini Saraswathi, a renowned blade runner from Bangalore.

The ceremony included a felicitation of past presidents of the IMC Ladies’ Wing. The chief guest for the evening was Vinod Tawde, State Minister Sports, Youth Affairs and Education. Guests of Honour were actors Mugdha Godse and Bhagyshree Dasani along with Sangeeta Jindal, Chairman JSW Foundation and Shaina NC, designer, politician, and social worker. The evening was hosted by Dennis Taraporewala.

Each year, the IMC Ladies’ Wing picks a theme that serves as a thread for the organisation’s annual focus. The theme for the year, under the leadership of Radhika Nath is “Soar: Rise to your Potential.”

Radhika Nath, President, IMC Ladies Wing said, “The IMC Ladies’ wing has always been an incorrigible force for social change and gender parity. We are honoured to felicitate these women of substance who continue to inspire us to break all boundaries and soar as they act on their own behalf to overcome institutional and personal barriers to success.”

Speaking on the occasion, Kaushika Hemdev said, “Sakshi Malik has inspired women across India by becoming the first Indian female wrestler to win a medal at the Olympics and the fourth female Olympic medalist from the country. Shalini Saraswathi has done the seemingly impossible, and been a beacon of hope and believing in dreams, for everyone. It gives us great pleasure to recognise the iconic impact of these inspiring women on the journey of India.”

One of India's most eminent not-for-profit platforms, the IMC Ladies Wing aims to encourage the economic development of women. It is an amalgamation of premier business and professional women’s organization with elite and progressive thinking women comprising of entrepreneurs, professionals, corporate leaders, athletes, academicians, bankers, journalists, artists, social activists and home makers who interact on variety of subjects from politics and economics to culture and development of the country.

The organisation’s recent 50 year celebrations at their annual conference titled “IMPACT” recognised the central role of the IMC Ladies’ Wing in encouraging efforts of Indian women across fields, particularly commerce. It included a headline address by PM Narendra Modi, and was attended by an eminent audience including CM Devendra Fadnavis, Poonam Mahajan, Katrina Kaif, as well as leading names from industry including Anand and Anuradha Mahindra, Sangeeta Jindal, Pinky Reddy and more. The annual exhibition of the IMC held at the NSCI Dome in this 50th year, was opened by actor Sonam Kapoor and triple Olympian medallist Stephanie Rice.
