Ludhiana, December 19, 2014 (Neel Kamal Sonu): Green Land Convent School New Subhash Nagar Ludhiana organized GANIT (Growing Aptitude in Numerical Innovations and Training) Week in the school premises.
The main objective of the event was to pay a tribute to a great and genius mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan on his birth anniversary who made commendable contributions in mathematics.
In this week an Essay Writing Competition was conducted in which students wrote thought provoking brilliant ideas exhibiting their innate talent and showcasing their knowledge and interest for mathematics. The school also organized an Inter House Maths Quiz Competition to arouse student’s interest in the logical and structural nature of Mathematics. Students of secondary wing of Jagriti, Jyoti, Kirti and Shakti House participated in the competition.
It was a seven round competition including Pass it on, Buzzer round, Rapid Fire Round etc. which engaged the students attention completely for one hour. The students showcased their brilliance by rapidly answering the questions. There were also several rounds for audience. The topics covered were diverse, ranging from mensuration to trigonometry and algebra. The participating teams came under the spell of numbers as they vied with each other to prove their mettle. Shakti House bagged the first position, Jyoti House with a slight difference moved to second while Kirti won third position.
The school also celebrated Christmas Day with full resonance and sobriety. Students of Pre-Primary and Primary wing participated in Santa Making and Christmas Tree Decoration Competition. Gift Wrapping Competition was organized for students of Secondary Wing. The Contest highlighted the student’s creativity and ingenuity as they worked at a frenetic pace and innovatively displayed their presentation with a riot of colours.
The Principal of the school firstly congratulated the winners of various competitions. She highlighted that such quiz competitions promotes exceptional standards in math and provides ample opportunities for students to challenge themselves and pitch their problem solving skills with their contemporaries. She said that such events aim at bringing elements of fun, excitement and creativity through the spirit of competition. She also put a limelight on the life history of Srinivasa Ramanujan and his contributions in the field of Mathematics. She also cherished the turmoil and competitive spirit of the students who participated in the competitions organized on the occasion of Christmas Day. She laid emphasis on the importance of this day motivated the students for spreading the feeling of love and brotherhood in humanity.
