Sri Muktsar Sahib, January 03, 2015 (Neel Kamal Sonu): The Punjab chapter of Indian Medical Association is holding its annual academic conference in the form of mega event PIMACON at Sri Muktsar Sahib on January 3 and 4, 2015.
On day 1 Dr Sudhir Raj, President Punjab of the association inaugurated the conference by lighting lamp in the presence of doctors from various district branches across Punjab. Speaking on the occasion Dr Amandeep Aggarwal, state Joint Secretary of IMA told that under the leadership of Dr. Sudhir Raj, IMA had excelled in all spheres, may it be apt response to all threats over our profession, efforts aimed at improving the sacred doctor patient relationship, improved working of all sub committees, state working committee constitution and meeting after years or better communication through Whatsapp/facebook/email groups.
He further told that “we have been able to get posters printed and distributed for creating awareness for proper biomedical waste disposal, ban of smoking in hospital premises, Medicare protection act and quackery”. IMA has been able to observe and promote rational use of antibiotics, safety of girl child and fight injustice at the part of TPAs in government owned health schemes. “IMA has been able to organize 8 regional CME meets in last 5 months” he added.
Punjab Medical Council has granted 5 credit hours to PIMACON and one hour each to the two workshops. Dr S.P.S. Sooch who was present as Observer of PMC also appreciated the arrangement as well as the participation of doctors. Dr. S. K Jindal of Muktsar applauded Dr. Sudhir Raj for organizing annual state conference at Muktsar for the first time.
A team of eminent gastroenterologists lead by Dr Ajit Sood of Ludhiana conducted workshop on endoscopy, wherein Dr Sudhir Raj displayed the technique of endoscopy. Use of endoscopy in arresting gastric bleeding, removal of foreign bodies was also displayed.
Another team comprising Dr AK Mandal, Dr Arun Sharma, Dr Vipul Chawla, Dr Devinder Midha of Fortis Hospital, Mohali and Dr Rajesh Mahajan and team from D.M.C and H, Ludhiana conducted workshop on critical care. They focused on resuscitation, fluid replacement, echocardiography and basic life support.
Apart from workshops various topics that were of immense interest and use to doctors of all specialties were discussed by distinguished faculty as per program sheet being attached. IMA also held its annual state council meeting wherein the office bearers presented an account of their work during 2014. The house applauded the team 2014 for excellent work in all fields and wished that the momentum built in 2014 shall be sustained in coming years too.
