Acharya Devvrat, Governor giving away prize to a student at the annual function of DAV Centenary Public School in Mandi 

Shimla, December 15, 2015 (News Team): Governor Acharya Devvrat stressed upon the need to educate the girl child for bringing about women empowerment in true sense. He was speaking at the Annual Function of DAV Centenary Public School in Mandi today. 

He said that our rich culture had glorious traditions where women were respected and held in high esteem. He said that women had made significant contribution in every sphere and made the country proud. He said that education of women was very important in building a strong and healthy society. He said that women should be accorded proper respect and given equal opportunities of growth and no discrimination should be made on gender basis.

Acharya Devvrat said that declining sex ratio was a cause of concern and called upon all the sections of society to come forward to eradicate the social evil of female foeticide. He said that skits, plays etc should be enacted in schools to spread the message among children as such important things should be part of their understanding since young age.

Governor urged the people to adopt a healthy life style and habits by incorporating discipline in their lives and added that maximum modern day diseases were result of faulty food and irregular habits. He urged them to be health conscious as only healthy citizens made a strong nation. He suggested that organic food was healthy and farmers should opt for organic cultivation which was nature friendly also. He said that there was a need to educate the farming community about the hazards of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and benefits of organic farming.

Acharya Devvrat expressed concern about the problem of drug abuse and added that the country needed strong young generation which was active, knowledgeable and sensitive. He said that youth should engage themselves in acquiring knowledge, social work and mainstream activities. The social evils in the society cannot be eliminated without their active support and cooperation however, youth were wasting their life in consuming drugs and intoxicants, he said. He called upon the youth to come out of this addiction and work for the country and urged them to generate mass awareness across the state which was the need of the hour.

He said that every citizen should be aware about his duty to keep the surroundings clean and added that cleanliness campaigns should be undertaken aggressively by individuals and institutions like schools and colleges. He said that being a tourist state it was extremely important for the towns and cities to be clean in order to build a good image among the tourists.

Governor lauded the contribution of Swami Dayanand in promoting female literacy, eradicating social evils from the society and spreading the knowledge of our scriptures and ancient texts. He congratulated the DAV Institutions for imparting value based education to children and making them aware about our rich cultural heritage.

Acharya Devvrat also distributed prizes to meritorious students and released a newsletter ' The Rising ' and Vision Document of the school.
