Amritsar, April 23, 2015 (Munish Sharma): In an endeavor to evoke and cultivate interest for books among students, Delhi Public school organized a declamation contest on famed Nobel Laureate Rabinder Nath Tagore’s philosophy of “Self realization is True education” and “Where the mind is without fear” to unleash the creativity of children on the occasion of “World Book Day”.

School Principal while welcoming the chief guest Dr. Bikram Singh Ghuman, Former Dean of Students welfare, language faculty and academic affairs, GNDU. She further stated, “Books infuse an understanding in all of us that our longings are universal longings, and that we are not lonely and isolated from anyone. Reading and writing decreases our sense of isolation, deepening, widening and expanding our sense of life by feeding our soul and ended with a quote of  PG Wodehouse, ‘There is no surer foundation for a beautiful friendship than a mutual taste in literature’.

To mark the “World Book Day” a beautiful Hindi transliterated collection of Punjabi Sufi poetry was released by the chief guest. The book titled ‘Tere Ishq Nachaaya Kar Thaiya Thaiya’ a tribute to great poetic souls who provided us such treasure,  comprised poetry of eminent Punjabi poets Bulleh Shah, Sheikh Farid, Shah Hussain, Hazrat Sultan Bahoo, Mian Mohammed Baksh. The book was compiled by students and teachers of DPS over many months. A sufi Qwwali was also presented.

The chief guest while appreciating the efforts to promote book reading amongst the youth enthused the students with “Books transport us into new worlds and introduce us to amazing people, who lived exciting lives. Books can make us travel all over the world while sitting in our cozy corners” And also applauded the efforts made by the Punjabi department of the school in compiling soulful Sufi poetry of eminent poets into a book.
