Students during Festival of spring at Global Institutes in Amritsar on February 14, 2015

Amritsar, February 14, 2015 (News Team): While higher learning studies leaves little time for sport, Global Institutes went a step further and invigorated their students with traditional sports at the Institute campus celebrating ‘Bahar Utsav’ or Festival of Spring. The Festival is inaugurated by Chairman of Global Institutes, Dr. B.S. Chandi.

As many as 21 teams of the Institute fought in a ‘Tug of war’ (Rope pulling sport), Pitcher breaking, kite flying with folk songs, merriment and traditional dances of ‘gidda’ and ‘Bhangra’ on the beat of the Dhol. It was interesting to see students make a pyramid, displaying their skills at balance and expertise to break the pitcher that hung above with 12 participating teams cheering their teammates.

The overall trophy (Boys) was won by students of Mechanical Department while the overall trophy amongst girls was won by MCA 1st year students. Bahar Utsav or Festival of Spring was celebrated with traditional ‘langar’ served by students including traditional Halwa and Ghungania.

Congratulating the winners, Vice Chairman Dr. Akashdeep Singh said that the Institute felt that traditional sports were slowly losing their glitter and the festival was a way for their revival. Addressing the students on this occasion Director GIMET Dr. Arvind Bhardwaj appreciated the performances of the students and wished them good luck for the future endeavors.
