Students and Staff of Global Institutes with Government High School Students in Amritsar on April 24, 2015

Amritsar, April 24, 2015 (Munish Sharma): In an effort to inculcate ‘dignity of labor’ as preached by Mahatma Gandhi, students of  all departments of Global Institute picked up brooms and cleaned the college premises to mark the “World Earth Day". The symbolic gesture by students was an endorsement of the Prime Minister' “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan” a movement on cleanliness.

The students and staff followed the principle of cleanliness and carried it to a village school Government High School, Sohian Khurd and distributed 10 dustbins dedicating the gesture to celebration of World Earth Day and environmental preservation. A short street talk on ways to cleanliness and its effects on health were undertaken for village school children under the GI’s ‘We care’ scheme.

Students of the institute got an opportunity to interact with economically constrained strata of society and understand their problems. For students of the institute a seminar on “Recycle and Reuse” besides exhibition of theme posters were held.

Vice Chairman Dr Akashdeep Singh while addressing the student’s seminar decried the lax attitude of modern industry in spreading pollution and eroding the environment. Experts at the seminar made observation on focused efforts to preserve flora and fauna besides improving human quality of life. They also pointed out about the deplorable condition of water including the pollutant level and alarming falls in the water table in Punjab. “No potable water is available. Whatever is available has to be used after filtration or usage of zero–B water purifiers” they said.

The experts endorsed the PM’s initiative on “Clean Ganga operation” and said “more water bodies especially rivers should be brought under the purview of water cleaning drives besides sensitizing the public on minimizing water usage by humanity.”
