Amritsar, May 12, 2015 (Munish Sharma): A seven day "Workshop on Software Technology for Ph.D./Post Doctoral Scholars/Teaching Faculty" was inaugurated at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 66 teachers and Research Scholars from Punjab and other states of the country are participating.

Prof. Paramjit Singh, Dean Academic Affairs and Dr. R.S. Grewal, Head, Computer Human Interaction Lab, Laurentian University, Ontario, Canada were Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively on this occasion.

Prof. Paramjit Singh in his inaugural address talked about the unprecedented transformation brought about by the advent of computers in the human civilization in the last few decades or so. Tracing the history of genesis of computers in general and Software Technology in particular, he said that it was inconceivable to predict as to what shape it is going to take in the times to come. Undoubtedly, the computer and Software Technology had become indispensable part of every sphere of human life. However, it is virtually impossible to replace human mind by any machine, he added. Dr. R.S. Grewal also shared his experiences on this occasion.

Prof. Avinash Kaur Nagpal, Director welcomed the Chief Guest and others. She expressed the hope that this Workshop would definitely enhance their knowledge regarding the use of Software Technology in the academics. She also enumerated the numerous achievements of the Academic Staff College, now rechristened as Human Resource Development Centre, which have even been recognized by the echelons of the higher education.

Dr. Kuljit Kaur, Deptt. of Computer Science and the Coordinator of the Workshop introduced the theme of the Workshop, which she named as "An attempt to orient users of Software Technology from non-IT background". Dr. Gurvinder Singh, Head, Deptt. of Computer Science proposed the formal vote of thanks.
