Ludhiana, February 7, 2015 (Neel Kamal Sonu): A seminar on “Drug Epidemic in Punjab - instigating factors, treatment and rehabilitation programs” organized by P.G Department of Economics, Kamla Lohtia S.D College today. The seminar was a benign step of Narcotics Control Bureau, Ministry of Home Affairs Govt. of India towards creating awareness among young against the use and abuse of drugs and its related ill effects on the health, career and whole life.
Representing the theme Chief Guest Dr. Kaustabh Sharma (IPS officer) Zonal Director, Narcotics Bureau Govt. of India elaborated the basic problems like the concept and usage of drugs and its impact on human body and mind. He also highlighted certain stunning facts that 5 percent of people in age group of 15 to 64 years are drug users and annually 2, 63,000 deaths are caused by drugs.
Another speaker H.S. Tanwar, National Secretary General Akhil Bhartiya Human Rights organization expressed his views on the theme, declared Maqbulpura Area of Amritsar as worst drug affected area of Punjab, where many youth have lost their life due to drugs. He convinced the youth to take a pledge against the trials or use of drugs and frequently participate in counseling sessions.
Principal Dr. Shiv Mohan Sharma exhorted the young students to remain away from this evil and promote a healthy and drug free society. Dr. Mohd. Saleem, Head PG Department of Economics also supported this pledge and advised the youth to shun away the drugs. R.D. Singhal General Secretary College Managing Committee presented the vote of thanks and stressed upon a strong check on the sources and marketing of drugs and focus upon self introspection.
Sunil Aggarwal, President College Managing Committee, Sandeep Aggarwal, Vice President, Brij Mohan Ralhan, Vice President and R.D. Singhal, General Secretary were also present on the occasion.
