Ludhiana, November 15, 2014 (Neel Kamal Sonu):
BSNL Employees Union Rishi Nagar branch Ludhiana organised a felicitation function in honour of Com. Balbir Singh who was elected all India president of BSNL Employees union unanimously at All India Conference of union held at Kolkata from November 6th to 9th, 2014. While thanking the organisers Com. Balbir Singh told that this the first time since the formation of BSNL and BSNL Employees union that such a prestigious post is given to Punjab. He further told that the staff issues like restoration of LTC fixed medical allowance, 78.2 IDA merger, Compassionate ground appointment, stagnation in the cadre of regular mazdoors, wage loss of direct recruited staff etc are pending since a long period which will be taken seriously.
Non-executives union are going to observe one day strike on November 27, 2014 demanding settlement of these issues. Another important issue is merger of MTNL with BSNL. We are opposing the merger because the MTNL is a listed company with 46.5 % public share and is also under debt of 20000 crore. So the merger will further deteriorate the financial position of BSNL. BSNL is running in loss since last four financial years due to wrong policies of Govt. BSNL Employees union has taken the task of savaging the BSNL in its hand and has united all the Unions of Non Executives and executives in BSNL under the banner of Joint Forum of Unions/Associations. Joint Forum is going on indefinite strike from February 3, 2015 demanding survival of BSNL and refund of 6700 crore after surrendering of spectrum.
The management is unilaterally implementing the derogatory recommendations of Deloitte consultants in BSNL, which will be another issue of the indefinite strike. For his elevation as All India President he gives the entire credit to the members of union in Punjab and particularly Ludhiana comrades. He thanked the team of members lead by Com. Jaswant Singh Branch Secretary for organising the felicitation function.
Com. Balwinder Singh District secretary while delivering his speech said that election of President from Punjab Circle is matter of pride for Punjab as well as Ludhiana. He further said that they will continue the struggle for the benefit of the members as well as for the survival of BSNL. He called upon the workers to make the strikes calls a grand success. Jasbir Singh CWC member SNEA (I) has graced the occasion.
Other who spoke during the occasion includes Com. Paramjit Singh Distt. President, Budh Singh Circle treasurer, Avtar Singh jhande, Jaswant Singh branch secretary, Amarjt Chander.
